Afghanistan Hit by 4.6 Magnitude Earthquake, Fourth Tremor in Days

  • A 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan on Friday, February 13, at a depth of 135 km.
  • This is the fourth earthquake to hit Afghanistan in recent days, following tremors of 4.3, 4.5, and 4.3 magnitude on February 12, 9, and 8 respectively.
  • The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported all incidents via posts on X.
  • Afghanistan is highly susceptible to earthquakes due to its location in the active seismic Hindu Kush region, at the collision zone of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
  • The country's vulnerability is exacerbated by decades of conflict and limited development, leaving communities with minimal resilience to natural disasters.
