Bengal SLST Group D Exam: 8 Lakh Candidates Appear for School Posts Amidst Strict Security

•Over 8 lakh candidates appeared for the first State Level Selection Test (SLST) for Group D non-teaching staff in Bengal's government-aided schools.
•The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) conducted the exam on March 8 for 5,489 Group D vacancies across 1,707 centres.
•Strict security measures were in place, prohibiting electronic gadgets and closed footwear; the OMR test carried 40 marks.
•The recruitment fills posts left vacant after the Supreme Court termed the 2016 SSC process "tainted and vitiated," terminating 26,000 employees.
•Around 2,000 invalidated but "untainted" Group D staff from the 2016 recruitment were also allowed to reappear for the test.
