Mumbai: Fake CMO Officer Dupes Jeweller of Rs 2.8 Crore

  • A 32-year-old man, Vaibhav Paresh Thakar, was arrested in Mumbai for allegedly posing as a Class One officer with the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office.
  • Thakar is accused of duping a jeweller of Rs 2.8 crore by offering to procure Customs-seized gold at a discounted rate.
  • The jeweller transferred Rs 1.15 crore to an account of a firm registered in Thakar's wife's name.
  • Police are investigating Thakar's alleged links to state government officers, his use of a yellow beacon vehicle, and his access to the CM's official residence.
  • Thakar allegedly used a fake government ID and impersonated an MLA's personal assistant; his wife is also sought by police.

Why It Matters: This shows the danger of impersonation and security gaps in government access.
