• Murali, a native of Cherukole in Mavelikkara, Alappuzha, served as an MLA from Mavelikkara Assembly constituency from 1991 to 2011.
• He began his political journey with the Kerala Students Union (KSU) in 1969, rising to become KSU Kerala president in 1980.
• Murali also held positions as general secretary of Kerala Youth Congress and was a member of the first Senate of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.
• He suffered a cardiac arrest and had been experiencing health issues following Covid-19, according to Congress leader A A Shukkoor.
