Iran Vows Strong Response After US Submarine Sinks IRIS Dena, Kills Crew
•Iran's Army chief, Major General Amir Hatami, warned that the attack on the IRIS Dena warship, which killed crew members, "will not go unanswered."
•The IRIS Dena was torpedoed and sunk by a US submarine on March 4, approximately 40 nautical miles off the coast of Galle, Sri Lanka, while returning from a peaceful mission.
•Esmaeil Baqaei, Spokesperson of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, called the US action a "war crime" and a violation of international laws, including UN Resolution 3314 and Geneva Convention II.
•Iran claims the US deliberately obstructed rescue operations for the sailors; 87 of the estimated 180 crew members died, with 32 rescued by the Sri Lankan Navy.
•The Indian Navy deployed vessels and aircraft to assist Sri Lanka-led search and rescue operations after the incident.
