Jharkhand to Explore New Airport in Dhanbad, Minister Confirms Feasibility Study

Jharkhand government to examine feasibility and land availability for a new airport in Dhanbad district.
•
Transport Minister Deepak Birua announced the study in response to a call attention motion by legislators.
•
Existing Barwa Adda airport in Dhanbad is 1B category (5-8 passengers) and cannot be upgraded due to land constraints.
•
A 2C category airport needs 37 additional acres, while 3C requires 113 acres and a 1,990-meter runway, difficult within city limits.
•
Minister will seek a report from Dhanbad deputy commissioner and guidance from Airports Authority on new airport proximity to existing ones.
