Kerala Assembly Demands Withdrawal of VB-G RAM G Scheme, Seeks MGNREGA Restoration

• The Kerala Assembly passed a resolution on Thursday demanding the Centre withdraw the new rural employment scheme, VB-G RAM G.
• The resolution calls for the restoration of the UPA-era Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
• State Parliamentary Affairs Minister M B Rajesh moved the resolution, which passed amidst UDF protests over the Sabarimala gold loss issue.
• Under VB-G RAM G, states must bear 40% of the expenditure, unlike MGNREGA where the Centre covered the entire cost.
