Meghalaya Class 9 Student Wins Award for Smart Gas Leak Detector

James Donald Kharkongor, a Class 9 student from Meghalaya, won a jury award at the North East Science Fair & Innovation Festival.
•
He developed a 'Smart LPG Safety and Hazard Prevention System' to detect gas leaks and prevent accidents.
•
The system uses advanced gas sensors, activates a buzzer alarm, triggers an automated exhaust fan, and shuts off gas supply via a solenoid valve.
•
It also includes IoT-based alerts for remote monitoring and real-time notifications.
•
Kharkongor was mentored by the Innovation Hub of the Shillong Science Centre and aims to contribute his ideas to nation-building.
