Myanmar rocked by two 3.2 magnitude earthquakes in quick succession

• Two earthquakes of magnitude 3.2 struck Myanmar on Sunday, February 15, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
• The first quake occurred at 12:26 am IST at a depth of 80 km, followed by another at 12:52 am IST at a shallow depth of 25 km.
• Shallow earthquakes are generally more dangerous due to stronger ground shaking and potential for greater damage.
• Myanmar is highly vulnerable to earthquakes and tsunamis, situated between four tectonic plates and traversed by the 1,400-km Sagaing Fault.
• The Sagaing Fault poses significant seismic hazard to densely populated regions like Sagaing, Mandalay, Bago, and Yangon.
