Police Open Fire on Habitual Offender After Knife Attack, Injuring Officers

• Police in Hindupur opened fire on K Nagendra, a habitual offender, after he attacked officers with a knife during an arrest attempt.
• An Inspector and a constable sustained injuries in the incident, which occurred in a forest area between Lepakshi and Chilamathur.
• Nagendra, facing nearly 90 criminal cases across southern states, attacked a constable and later an inspector who fired a warning shot before shooting him in the knee in self-defence.
• The accused has a history of 41 cases in Sri Satya Sai and Ananthapur districts, including a 2024 gang rape case and a recent NDPS Act booking.
• All injured parties, including Nagendra, were transported to the Government General Hospital for treatment.
