RBI: 98.45% of Rs 2,000 Notes Returned Since Withdrawal Announcement

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that 98.45 percent of the Rs 2,000 banknotes in circulation have been returned.
•
The withdrawal of Rs 2,000 denomination banknotes was announced on May 19, 2023.
•
The total value of Rs 2,000 banknotes in circulation decreased from Rs 3.56 lakh crore on May 19, 2023, to Rs 5,501 crore by March 31, 2024.
•
Exchange facilities are available at 19 RBI issue offices, and deposits into bank accounts are accepted since October 9, 2023.
•
Individuals can also send Rs 2,000 banknotes via India Post to RBI issue offices for credit to their bank accounts; the notes remain legal tender.
