Thane Court Acquits Five in Kidnapping-Extortion Case Due to Lack of Evidence

  • A Thane sessions court acquitted five accused, including four women, in an alleged kidnapping and extortion case.
  • Additional Sessions Judge G T Pawar ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
  • The accused, Nisha Nagesh Gaikwad, Sonali alias Pinky Mahendra Mahalle, Darshana Nagesh Gaikwad, Deepa Rohit Prajapati, and Osama Zaid Fakki, were accused of kidnapping two men on May 21, 2024.
  • They allegedly threatened to frame the victims in a rape case and demanded Rs 1 lakh, releasing them after receiving Rs 5,000.
  • The complainant and sole eyewitness failed to identify the accused in court, stating their faces were covered, leading to the acquittal.
