Unclaimed Bank Deposits Hit Rs 72,454 Crore in DEA Fund: MoS Finance
- •Rs 72,454 crore in unclaimed bank deposits are currently held in the Depositor Education and Awareness (DEA) Fund, as of January 28, 2026.
- •Unclaimed deposits include savings/current accounts inoperative for 10 years or term deposits not claimed within 10 years of maturity.
- •Public sector banks account for Rs 60,571.02 crore, private sector banks Rs 9,607.76 crore, and foreign lenders Rs 2,275.01 crore of these funds.
- •Government and RBI launched UDGAM portal to help public search for unclaimed deposits across multiple banks.
- •The Banking Laws (Amendment) Act, 2025, allows multiple nominations (up to four) for bank customers to simplify claims.
