Voter Base Shrinks by 1.70 Crore in 9 States/UTs After Special Intensive Revision
•Electorate in nine states and Union territories reduced by over 1.70 crore after the publication of final electoral rolls.
•The reduction is a result of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
•Combined voter base in Gujarat, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Goa, and Kerala decreased from 21.45 crore to 19.75 crore.
•SIR has been completed in Bihar and is underway in 12 states/UTs covering nearly 60 crore electors.
•Political parties have challenged the exercise in the Supreme Court for Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
