Vrindavan Widows Break Tradition, Celebrate Holi with Flowers and Gulaal

Over 200 widows from five ashrams celebrated Holi at Vrindavan's Gopinath temple.
•
They defied orthodox traditions that historically forbid their participation in festivals.
•
The celebration involved chanting, dancing to 'Rasiya', and splashing over 1,000 kg of flowers and 700 kg of 'gulaal'.
•
Sulabh International's Executive Convenor, Nitya Pathak, noted a gradual rise in participating widows.
•
The Supreme Court in 2012 directed Sulabh International to care for Vrindavan's widows due to their destitute conditions.
