WW-II Era Tramcar 'Geetanjali' Rolls Through Kolkata, Evokes Nostalgia
•A specially decorated World War II-era wooden tramcar, 'Geetanjali', rolled through Kolkata to mark the anniversary of the city's first tram service in 1873.
•The vintage tram, with 50 enthusiasts, journeyed from Gariahat depot to Shyambazar, drawing attention and evoking nostalgia.
•Organized by the Calcutta Tram Users Association, the event highlighted the tram's layered past, including its construction during WWII blackouts.
•Kolkata's tram network, Asia's oldest, has drastically shrunk from 37 lines in the 1960s to only two operational routes today.
•'Geetanjali', declared a heritage tram in 2014, is housed at Nonapukur depot and can be hired for special occasions.
