New Safety Rules Mandate Auto Braking, Driver Alerts for Trucks to Boost Road Safety
- •New safety rules for medium and heavy commercial vehicles aim to reduce crashes and protect road users.
- •Revised braking standards (IS 11852: 2019) and Electronic Stability Control (AIS 162) become mandatory for trucks from October 1, 2027.
- •Advanced Emergency Braking Systems will be required from October 1, 2027, to automatically apply brakes in emergencies.
- •Blind Spot Information Systems (AIS 186), Moving Off Information Systems (AIS 187), Driver Drowsiness Detection (AIS 184), and Lane Departure Warning Systems (AIS 188) will be mandatory from January 1, 2028.
- •Air conditioning in truck cabins is mandated from October 1, 2025, to reduce driver fatigue, alongside expanded driver training and a Cashless Treatment for Road Accident Victims Scheme, 2025.
