Train Fares Rise Today: Sleeper, AC Tickets Cost More!

  • Revised train fares took effect from December 26, marking the second hike in the 2025-26 financial year.
  • Fares increased by 1 paisa/km for General class over 215 km, and 2 paise/km for Non-AC and AC classes of Mail/Express trains.
  • No fare increase for general class and suburban train journeys up to 215 km, or for local/suburban services, providing relief for short-distance travelers and daily commuters.
  • The hike aims to improve passenger amenities; tickets booked before December 26, reservation fees, and superfast surcharges remain unchanged.
  • Indian Railways expects an additional Rs 600 crore annually from this hike, totaling Rs 1,300 crore with the July revision.

Why It Matters: Indian Railways hiked fares from Dec 26 (1-2 paise/km), but short-distance and local travel remain unchanged.
