India's Retail Inflation Jumps to 1.33% in December 2025; Food Deflation Eases

  • India's retail inflation, measured by CPI, increased to 1.33% in December 2025 from 0.71% in November.
  • The rise is attributed to higher prices of vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, spices, pulses, and personal care items.
  • Urban inflation (2.03%) remained higher than rural inflation (0.76%) in December.
  • Kerala recorded the highest inflation at 9.49%, followed by Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Jammu & Kashmir.
  • This is the final CPI release using the 2012=100 base year; future reports will use 2024=100.

Why It Matters: India's retail inflation rose in December 2025, driven by food prices, with a new base year coming.
