  • Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation rose to 0.83% in December 2025, a significant increase from the 0.32% contraction in November.
  • The Ministry of Commerce & Industry attributed the rise to increased prices in manufacturing, minerals, machinery, food products, and textiles.
  • Primary articles saw a 1.09% increase, with non-food articles, minerals, and food articles contributing to the rise, while crude petroleum and natural gas prices decreased.
  • The fuel and power group experienced a 1.23% increase, primarily driven by a 4.46% rise in electricity prices.
  • Manufactured products, the largest category, increased by 0.41%, with 13 out of 22 groups showing price hikes.

Why It Matters: India's wholesale inflation turned positive in December 2025, driven by broad-based price increases across sectors.
