Bengaluru Airport to Get India's First Automated People Mover for Seamless Transfers

  • Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru plans to introduce an Automated People Mover (APM) system for quicker, smoother inter-terminal transfers.
  • Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has invited bids for design consultancy services for the APM, a driverless, rail-based system.
  • The APM will replace electric shuttle buses, aiming to reduce waiting times, congestion, and provide predictable travel times between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
  • Bengaluru will be the first airport in India to implement such an automated, rail-based inter-terminal transit system, a standard feature at major global airports.
  • Alongside the APM, BIAL is also studying the feasibility of building an ultra-luxury hotel at the airport to cater to premium travellers and transit passengers.

Why It Matters: Bengaluru Airport is set to revolutionize inter-terminal travel with India's first APM and explore a luxury hotel.
