Bengaluru Deploys AI Robots to Combat Water Leaks Ahead of Summer Peak

  • Bengaluru is using AI-powered robots to detect water leaks in pipelines, a significant shift from traditional methods.
  • The city loses nearly 33% of its treated water due to leaks in aging infrastructure, a major concern for its water supply.
  • BWSSB has deployed these robots to inspect pipelines, capture data, assess health, detect leaks, and check water quality.
  • AI robots identify faults within 24 hours, a process that previously took 5-6 days, and have found leaks at over 90 locations.
  • BWSSB has allocated Rs 13.56 crore for leakage control and infrastructure upgrades across Bengaluru, with specific projects in South Division, Southwest Division, Malleshwaram CJF area, and Outer Ring Road near Bellandur.

Why It Matters: Bengaluru is leveraging AI robots to efficiently detect and repair water leaks, conserving water for the summer.
