Bengaluru to Get India's First China-Style Elevated Railway Terminal in Yelahanka
- •South Western Railway proposes India's first multi-storey elevated railway terminal at Yelahanka, Bengaluru, to manage growing rail traffic and decongest existing stations.
- •The vertical design, inspired by Hangzhou Railway Station, China, will feature 5 levels, 16 platforms, 10 stabling lines, and 15 pit lines, optimizing land use in north Bengaluru.
- •Estimated at Rs 6,000 crore, the project aims for an airport-style passenger experience with segregated entry/exit, likely under a Public Private Partnership model.
- •Located on 15 acres of existing railway land, it will connect to Kogilu Cross Metro Station (Blue Line) and Yelahanka–Doddaballapur Highway for seamless connectivity.
- •The proposal is currently with the Railway Board for approval, marking a potential shift in Indian railway station design for land-constrained urban areas.
Why It Matters: Yelahanka's proposed elevated terminal is a pioneering vertical solution for Bengaluru's growing rail needs.
