Nineteen vegetable samples contained lead beyond permissible limits; chillies, cucumber, ginger had excess pesticide residues.
•
Contaminants absorbed internally cannot be fully removed by washing; boiling may offer some reduction.
•
Experts advise soaking in salt water, cooking with more water, blanching, and increasing antioxidant/fiber/sulfur-rich foods.
•
Central Pollution Control Board recommends farmer training, controlled pesticide use, and eco-friendly pest control.
