• The long-awaited Velachery-Parangimalai MRTS extension in South Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is set to begin operations on March 14.
• The 5-kilometre project, initiated in 2008, faced multiple delays but is now structurally complete with successful trial runs.
• All necessary safety inspections, as per Commissioner of Railway Safety guidelines, have been finalized, ensuring readiness for passenger services.
• Southern Railway plans 43 pairs of train services between Chennai Beach and Parangimalai, significantly enhancing connectivity.
• Parangimalai station will transform into a major multimodal transport hub, integrating MRTS, Southern suburban railway, and Chennai Metro.
