Crimes Against Children Soar in Maharashtra; Mumbai Leads with Nearly 3,000 Cases in 2023

Maharashtra saw a worrying rise in crimes against children, with 22,390 cases in 2023, up from 17,261 in 2021.
•
Mumbai recorded the highest number of cases in 2023 with 2,992 offences, revealed in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
•
High detection rates reported across cities: Mumbai (95.5%), Thane (97.9%), Pune Rural (100%).
•
State established 49 Special Juvenile Police Units and 124 counselling centres for victims under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.
•
Despite high detection rates, the rising number of cases highlights growing concerns about child safety in the state.
