Crimes Against Children Soar in Maharashtra; Mumbai Leads with Nearly 3,000 Cases in 2023

•Maharashtra saw a worrying rise in crimes against children, with 22,390 cases in 2023, up from 17,261 in 2021.
•Mumbai recorded the highest number of cases in 2023 with 2,992 offences, revealed in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
•High detection rates reported across cities: Mumbai (95.5%), Thane (97.9%), Pune Rural (100%).
•State established 49 Special Juvenile Police Units and 124 counselling centres for victims under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.
•Despite high detection rates, the rising number of cases highlights growing concerns about child safety in the state.
