Mumbai-Pune Expressway's 'Missing Link' Nears Completion: End to Traffic Snarls?

  • The ₹6,695-crore Mumbai–Pune Expressway "Missing Link" project is 95-98% complete, targeting a May 1, 2026 inauguration.
  • Designed to bypass the accident-prone Khandala Ghat, it will reduce travel time by 25-30 minutes.
  • Features two massive twin tunnels, including an 8.9 km tunnel, making them some of the widest in Asia with 8-10 lanes.
  • Includes a 650-meter cable-stayed bridge across Tiger Valley, with 182-meter pylons, taller than Bandra–Worli Sea Link.
  • Aims to eliminate the chronic bottleneck where 10 lanes merge into six, enhancing safety and traffic flow.
