Delhi Enforces Strict Anti-Pollution Norms: No Old Cars, No Fuel Without PUC From Today

  • Delhi implements stringent anti-pollution norms from today, banning old cars (BS-VI engine required) and denying fuel without a valid PUC certificate.
  • The new rules are expected to affect approximately 1.2 million vehicles entering Delhi from NCR regions like Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Noida.
  • Automatic number plate recognition cameras are installed at fuel stations to identify vehicles without valid PUC certificates.
  • These measures, announced by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, will remain in effect until Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is lifted.
  • Over 580 police officers, 37 enforcement vans, and teams from various departments will ensure compliance; private offices are also directed to operate with 50% staff.

Why It Matters: Delhi enforces stringent anti-pollution rules, banning old cars and requiring PUC for fuel, to combat severe smog.
