India's Covert Edge: The Secret History of the Special Frontier Force
•The Special Frontier Force (SFF) was raised in November 1962 after the India-China war to conduct covert missions behind enemy lines.
•Designed for unconventional warfare, it operated outside standard military structures, reporting to the PMO via the Intelligence Bureau and later R&AW.
•Composed largely of Tibetan refugees, the SFF leveraged their high-altitude acclimatization and terrain familiarity for operational advantage.
•Trained in guerrilla warfare, rock climbing, demolition, and survival, the SFF evolved into a self-sustaining special operations force.
•Known as "Establishment 22," the SFF has been deployed in critical operations from the 1971 war to recent Ladakh standoffs, maintaining strict secrecy.
