India Boosts Energy Security: Green Hydrogen Blending to Expand PNG Network
•India aims to expand its Piped Natural Gas (PNG) network and blend Green Hydrogen with natural gas to reduce imports, especially amidst the West Asia crisis.
•NTPC and Gujarat Gas Limited commissioned India's first green hydrogen blending project in 2023 at NTPC Kawas township, Surat, using power from a 1 MW floating solar project.
•PNGRB approved 5% vol./vol. green hydrogen blending with PNG, with plans to scale up to 20% to reduce CO2 emissions while maintaining heating content.
•The National Green Hydrogen Mission, with an outlay of ₹19,744 crore, targets 5 MMT green hydrogen production by 2030, enhancing energy security and attracting investments.
