India's Core Sector Growth Plummets to 1.8% in November

  • India's eight core sectors grew by 1.8% in November, a significant slowdown from 5.8% in the same month last year.
  • Crude oil (-3.2%), natural gas (-2.5%), electricity (-2.2%), and petroleum refinery products (-0.9%) saw declines in November.
  • Cement production surged by 14.5%, followed by steel (+6.1%), fertiliser (+5.6%), and coal (+2.1%) in November.
  • Cumulative growth for April-November this fiscal was 2.4%, down from 4.4% in the corresponding period last fiscal.
  • The core sector, comprising eight key infrastructure industries, accounts for 40.27% of the overall Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
