Delhi Act Regulates Private School Fees, Boosts Transparency

  • Delhi government introduces the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fee) Act, 2025, to regulate private school fees.
  • The Act bans capitation fees, limits registration to Rs 25, admission to Rs 200, and development fees to 10% of annual tuition.
  • Schools must disclose fee components, maintain separate accounts, and cannot transfer student-collected funds to other entities.
  • An annual School-Level Fee Regulation Committee, including parents and a DoE representative, will approve/reduce proposed fees, fixing them for three years.
  • The legislation applies to all private unaided schools and prevents punitive actions against students for unpaid or delayed fees.

Why It Matters: Delhi's new Act protects parents from unfair private school fee increases.
