Centre to Scrap Fast-Track CBFC Clearance: End of Queue Jumping for Films

•Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MI&B) aims to abolish queue-jumping and restore consistent processing for all films.
•The Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024, established the priority route, allowing faster certification by paying up to three times the normal fee.
•Officials fear the scheme led to procedural distortions, unfairness, and created a 'two-tier certification process' favoring well-funded producers.
•The proposal seeks to ensure equal access for independent and small filmmakers, increase predictability, and strengthen the integrity of the certification process.
