Rajasthan Royals Sold for Record $1.63 Billion, Becomes IPL's First Billion-Dollar Team

Rajasthan Royals becomes the first IPL team to be sold for over a billion dollars, acquired for $1.63 billion (Rs 15,286 crore).
•
A consortium led by US-based entrepreneur Kal Somani won the bid to acquire 100 percent of the franchise.
•
The previous record was held by Sanjiv Goenka's RPSG Group, which bought Lucknow Super Giants for $940 million in 2021.
•
New owners include American business magnates Rob Walton (Walmart heir) and Sheila Ford Hamp (Ford Motor Company).
•
The Somani-led consortium also owns teams in SA20 (Paarl Royals) and Caribbean Premier League (Barbados Royals), with other sports investments.
