Air India Flight AI-132 Flew With Fuel Switch Anomaly, DGCA Clarifies

  • Air India flight AI-132 from London to Bengaluru experienced a fuel control switch anomaly on February 1, seven months after a similar issue caused AI-171 crash.
  • The flight crew observed the fuel control switch not fully locking into the 'run' position during engine start-up at London.
  • Despite the initial issue, the switch latched correctly on the third attempt, and the aircraft proceeded to Bengaluru, landing safely 33 minutes early.
  • DGCA clarified that no abnormal engine parameters or warnings were recorded, and the investigation found both fuel control switches to be in technically satisfactory condition.
  • The movement of the switch was attributed to applying pressure from an incorrect angle, a design-related behavior, not a defect, and Boeing advised Air India on correct operating procedures.
