Assam Court Bars Congress Leaders From Defaming CM Himanta Sarma

• A Kamrup (Metro) court in Guwahati restrained several Indian National Congress leaders, including Gaurav Gogoi and Bhupesh Bhagal, from making defamatory statements against Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
• The order relates to alleged land ownership by CM Sarma and his family members.
• Civil Judge Nayan Jyoti Sarma issued the order in response to a suit filed by the Chief Minister against three Congress leaders and two local newspapers.
• The court also served show-cause notices to the Congress leaders, with the next hearing scheduled for March 9.
• CM Sarma has demanded Rs 500 crore in damages from the Congress leaders for what he described as false and defamatory allegations.
