  • Union government to introduce Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication technology to reduce road accidents.
  • Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the technology will alert drivers about speed, location, and other vehicle aspects in real-time.
  • A joint task force with the telecom department has been constituted, and DoT agreed to use 30 MHz for V2V purposes.
  • V2V is a wireless technology enabling cars to communicate directly, helping avoid collisions by detecting nearby vehicles, including those in blind spots.
  • India faces 5 lakh road accidents annually, resulting in 1.8 lakh deaths, with 66% of fatalities in the 18-34 age group.

Why It Matters: India is adopting V2V technology and amending the Motor Vehicle Act to drastically reduce road accidents and fatalities.
