IMD Issues Orange Alert for Heavy Rain in Tamil Nadu, Chennai Under Yellow Alert
- •IMD has issued an Orange Alert for heavy rain in Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry and Karaikal region.
- •A deep depression in the Southwest Bay of Bengal is causing heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places in Tamil Nadu on January 10 and heavy rainfall on January 11.
- •Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, and Ramanathapuram districts are under Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall.
- •The deep depression is located near 8.5° North Latitude and 82.2° East Longitude, about 370 km southeast of Karaikal and 550 km south-southeast of Chennai.
- •Fishermen are warned of squally winds (40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) and rough sea conditions along the coasts of Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry.
