India Slaps 5-Year Anti-Dumping Duty on Chinese Cold-Rolled Steel Imports

  • India imposed a five-year anti-dumping duty on cold-rolled steel imports from China to safeguard its domestic industry.
  • The duty ranges from $223.8 to $414.9 per ton, with a specific duty of $223.82 per tonne on Cold Rolled Non-Oriented Electrical Steel (CRNO).
  • CRNO, used in electrical equipment like motors and generators, was found to be imported at unfairly low prices, causing injury to Indian producers.
  • The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) conducted an investigation and recommended the duty, which the government approved.
  • Cold Rolled Full Hard Silicon Electrical Steel (CRFH), a raw material for CRNO, has been excluded from the scope of the duty.

Why It Matters: India protects its steel industry by imposing a 5-year anti-dumping duty on Chinese imports.
