Piyush Goyal: India's US Tariffs Lower Than Neighbors, MEA to Address Russian Oil

  • Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal stated India faces lower US tariffs (18%) compared to neighbors like China (35%), Vietnam (20%), Bangladesh (20%), and Indonesia (19%).
  • The US has reduced reciprocal tariffs on India to 18% from 25% and lifted the punitive 25% duty for buying Russian oil.
  • Goyal confirmed that products where India is self-sufficient, including genetically modified crops, meat, poultry, dairy, and various staples, are excluded from the deal to protect farmers.
