Punjab Boosts Public Transport: 1,279 New Buses Approved for State-Run Fleet

  • Punjab government, led by Bhagwant Singh Mann, approved adding 1,279 buses to state-run PUNBUS and PRTC fleets.
  • The expansion aims to strengthen last-mile connectivity in urban and rural areas, enhancing affordability and accessibility.
  • 796 buses will be procured directly (696 ordinary, 100 midi), and 483 will be inducted under the kilometre scheme.
  • New ordinary buses will feature AIS-153 standards, including wheelchair access, GPS, CCTV, and fire detection systems.
