SC Disposes of Plea Against Sonam Wangchuk's Detention After Centre Revokes Order

• The Supreme Court disposed of a plea challenging the detention of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.
• The plea was filed by Wangchuk's wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, against his detention under the National Security Act (NSA).
• A bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and PB Varale noted that the Centre revoked Wangchuk’s detention order on March 14.
• The Centre revoked the detention with immediate effect, nearly six months after his arrest following violent protests in Leh.
• Wangchuk was detained on September 26, 2025, after protests demanding statehood for Ladakh and its inclusion under the Sixth Schedule.
