•Supreme Court questioned a pharmaceutical firm regarding the deaths of over 18 children in Uzbekistan linked to its cough syrups.
•The bench, comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi, refused to quash a summoning order against the firm.
•SC highlighted the damage to India's international image, stating, "Only for the sake of money, you indulge in this? The nation's image is dented due to this."
•The firm's counsel argued there was no record proving the syrup caused deaths, but the court reiterated the impact on the country's reputation.
•The top court upheld the Allahabad High Court's decision, which had dismissed pleas challenging the summoning order by the chief judicial magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar.
