Senior Citizen Duped of Rs 16.5 Lakh in Fake 'Digital Arrest' Scam

• A 75-year-old retired BMC official from Andheri East was defrauded of Rs 16.50 lakh.
• Scammers staged a 'digital arrest' by posing as Delhi ATS and NIA officers in a fake Delhi bomb blast probe.
• The victim was instructed to download the Signal app and received a video call from an impostor claiming to be NIA officer Sadanand Date.
• He was threatened with arrest for alleged money laundering and told not to discuss the matter due to national security.
• The victim transferred Rs 16.50 lakh for 'verification' of funds, after which the fraudsters blocked his number.
