When a General's Book on India-China War Rattled Nehru in 1967
•A 1967 book, "The Untold Story" by Lt. Gen. BM Kaul (Retd.), caused a political storm, similar to recent events involving Rahul Gandhi and Gen. MM Naravane's unpublished book.
•Kaul, who commanded IV Corps during the 1962 India-China war, published his account without government permission, leading to demands for his arrest by Congress MPs.
•Defence Minister Swaran Singh clarified that while serving officers needed permission, retired personnel did not, but were still bound by the Official Secrets Act.
•Congress MPs, including Rajendra Pratap Sinha, Loknath Mishra, and G Murahari, questioned the government's inaction and even labeled Kaul an "enemy informant" and "double agent."
•The controversy also fueled demands for the declassification of the Henderson Brooks Committee Report on the 1962 war, which remains classified even today.
