Centre Plans Underground Rail Tracks for Northeast Corridor: Vaishnaw

  • Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced plans for underground railway tracks along a 40-km strategic corridor in West Bengal.
  • The corridor, often called the "chicken's neck" via Siliguri, connects the Northeast with the rest of India.
  • The project aims to enhance connectivity and security for the region.
  • Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava confirmed the underground lines will be between Tin Mile Haat and Rangapani stations.
  • Existing tracks in the corridor are also planned to be expanded to four lines.
