Governor Appoints Vivek Bhimanwar as MPSC Chairman Amidst Elections
- •Governor Acharya Devvrat appointed Vivek Laxmikant Bhimanwar (IAS) as the Chairman of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) during ongoing municipal elections.
- •Bhimanwar, a 2009 batch IAS officer, will serve for six years or until he turns 62, as per Article 316 (1) of the Indian Constitution.
- •He is currently the Transport Commissioner of Maharashtra, known for implementing key projects and taking strict action against illegal bike taxis in Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
- •His past roles include Chief Executive Officer of Thane district and Collector of Wardha district, with experience also in the Income Tax Department.
- •Dr. Abhay Eknath Wagh holds additional charge as Chairman until Bhimanwar assumes office, under Article 316 (1-A).
Why It Matters: Vivek Bhimanwar, a senior IAS officer, is the new MPSC Chairman, appointed by the Governor.
