Retail Shareholding Hits 4-Year Low Amid December-Quarter Gains
- •Retail shareholding in NSE-listed companies fell to 7.25%, the lowest since December 2021, despite a 6.2% Nifty 50 rise.
- •Individual shareholders and HNIs offloaded shares worth ₹57,404 crore in the December 2025 quarter, booking profits.
- •Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought over ₹2 lakh crore in shares, with mutual fund ownership reaching an all-time high of 11.1%.
- •FPIs continued to be net sellers, offloading ₹13,072 crore, and their holding declined to 16.6% from 21.2% in December 2020.
- •DIIs, retail investors, and HNIs combined now hold a record 28% of Indian equities, reducing FPIs' market influence.
