Goregaon-Mulund Link Road: Tunnel Through Sanjay Gandhi Park, Wildlife Safeguarded
•The Goregaon-Mulund Link Road project is rapidly advancing, featuring a 5.30 km tunnel through Sanjay Gandhi National Park to ease Mumbai traffic.
•This tunnel, utilizing advanced TBM technology, will connect Mumbai's eastern and western suburbs, significantly reducing travel time and fuel consumption.
•The project also includes a 1.32 km box tunnel in the Chitranagari area and connecting roads; construction began in November 2023.
•Special emphasis is placed on wildlife conservation, with 1% of the total project cost (20 crore rupees) reserved and deposited with the Forest Department.
•Approved by the National Wildlife Board with conditions, a human-wildlife conflict prevention plan for Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is being implemented, with completion expected by October 2028.
