MP: Wilt disease threatens chickpea, lentil; 100% crop loss. Symptoms & remedies.
- •Chickpea and lentil crops in Madhya Pradesh face a severe threat from "Uktha Rog" (wilt disease), potentially leading to 100% yield loss due to cold weather.
- •Uktha Rog, a fungal disease (white/black rot), spreads through soil and seeds, causing leaves to yellow, dry, and plants to wilt, with a black structure visible near roots.
- •Prevention involves deep plowing, fungicide seed treatment, organic manure, crop rotation, and selecting resistant chickpea varieties during sowing.
- •For existing infections, a 0.2% solution of Carbendazim 50 WP should be sprayed at the plant roots to control the disease.
- •In fields previously affected by Uktha Rog, avoid planting chickpea or pigeon pea for several years; crop rotation is crucial to prevent recurrence.
